Revive old job applications
Just because you didn’t get the job last time doesn’t mean you won’t get the job this time. You should always keep your old applications on file so you can re-visit them at a later date, you were obviously interested enough to apply for the position the first time round so why not again.
• Pull out your old applications and decide which ones would still be relevant and discard those that aren’t anymore
• Re-visit the companies website and find out what they are doing at the moment
• Decide on why you wanted to work for that company in the first place
• Make a list of what you have to offer that company
• Put a call in to the company and find out who would be the best person to send your CV to, is it still the same person?
• Write your CV and don’t forget to tailor it for each company you are applying to. Tips on writing a CV can be found here
• Write a covering letter detailing why you are looking to leave your current role, why you have approached them in particular and what you have to offer. Tips on writing a covering letter to accompany your CV can be found here
• Follow up you application to make sure they have received it and to establish if they are currently interested, if not now ask when will they be recruiting again and put that date in your diary
• Ask for your CV to be held on file for any relevant vacancies that may come up
