Network Rail Telecoms has been established as Network Rail's national telecoms asset management and service provision function.
Department & how it relates to the role
Legacy and operational communications for the UK mainland rail network is a key deliverable for Network Rail Telecoms, largely supported on one of the UK's largest physical networks of trackside fibre and copper cables. Alongside the roll-out of a national SDH transmission and GSM-R network, NRT is taking the first steps to delivering a national IP-MPLS layer on this infrastructure, to accompany the current re-fresh of its national LAN/WAN estate. The vacancy is for a second Infrastructure Solution Architect to work as part of a national specialist technology team, guiding NRT's strategic direction and supporting the wider Network Rail business.
The Infrastructure Solution Architect will be responsible for evolving and sustaining technical solutions to support the creation and delivery of comms network services to Network Rail, the UK railway industry and other customers. This will include working with manufacturers to maintain a current knowledge of product innovation, aligning this with rail business requirements, proposing and proving technical solutions, writing design rules and supporting the packaging of services. The successful applicant will be a very experienced and successful comms and IT systems integrator, who has a proven career record with a network equipment manufacturer, network integrator or large corporate network owner. Evidence of structured and assessed network configuration skills, such as CISCO CCDA/CCNA certification, will be favoured in the selection process, but not at the expense of strong and demonstrable experience leading the development of large IP-MPLS/MAN/WAN/LAN managed networks using fibre, copper and wireless technologies. Whilst the role is currently based in Network Rail's offices adjacent to Euston station, in mid 2012, the role will move to Network Rail's purpose-built national centre in Milton Keynes.
What can we offer you….?

You can expect competitive pay, a bonus scheme and a choice of contributory pension schemes. We also offer a generous annual leave package, plus up to 75% discount on season rail tickets.
