We are delighted to announce that the opportunity has arisen for a number of Trainee Train Driver positions.

This is the start of an exciting journey towards becoming a Qualified Driver, beginning as a Trainee where you will spend up to 14 months learning the rules, gaining the knowledge and of course, driving our trains.

You can expect many different challenges along the way, and it’s not just about driving trains - at FCC we are committed to outstanding Customer Service at all times. You should have a proactive approach to managing disruption and emergency situations should they arise. Your communication skills will play a vital part as a train driver, where you will be expected to make PA announcements to keep our passengers informed at all times. You will also need to prove you are serious about safety and able to follow rules and procedures along with a work ethic that delivers day in, day out personal performance.

Due to our Fatigue Monitoring System for all Safety-Critical Staff, it is crucial that all candidates live within close proximity of the depot at which they are assigned. This translates as follows: Brighton, Bedford, Hitchin, Cambridge and Peterborough must reside within 60 minutes’ total travel time; King’s Cross and Blackfriars within 90 minutes’ total travel time. Travel to the London depots must be made predominantly by public transport as car-parking facilities are not available.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate the following in their application:

• The ability to work under pressure
• Experience of working with rules & procedures
• Flexibility to undertake shift work & unsocial hours
• A customer-focused approach
• That they are able to travel from their residence to either Brighton, Bedford, Hitchin, Cambridge or Peterborough within 60 minutes or King’s Cross and Blackfriars within 90 minutes
• That they hold a current, full UK driving licence¬
