Your day to day duties as Principal Tunnel Engineer will include Project Management of engineering disciplines including Structural, environmental, mechanical and electrical engineers covering a range of project requirements from new build to modification, maintenance and refurbishment. You will also be responsible for management of preliminary property protection (settlement) studies, Tunneling Methodology Reports, cost estimates, feasibility studies, construction methods and coordination with systems and station consultants.
Other primary responsibilities include producing detailed design calculations and drawings for tunnel main bore and involvement in drawing productions, design feasibilities and interfaces between tunnels, shafts and ticket halls. You will also ensure comprehensive assessment of the structural condition of all the tunnel assets has been carried out and carriy out feasibility studies looking at tunnelling methods and alignments.
You will possess strong academic qualifications ideally a civil engineering (or equivalent) preferably with MEng or MA qualifications although not essential. In addition, you will be a Chartered engineer status (MICE status is preferred)
Tunnel / underground works Design Engineering experience is a must as is experience of the methods, tools and techniques for the design and assessment of tunnel designs supporting assessment to a range of project demands. Experience and knowledge of differing underground construction techniques including TBM bored tunnels, hand excavated tunnels, NATM and cut-and-cover works is also required.
