Department & how it relates to the role:
The Legal Services function provides professional, timely, commercially realistic and effective legal input to all the Network Rail’s activities. They provide corporate governance and all legal services support to the company either through the use of the department’s legal expertise or through external legal advisors. The function has the following four sections: Company Secretarial, Commercial, Property and Litigation
Provide high quality legal advice having regarding to the need for management of corporate legal risk and delivery of legal services to the Company. Assist other members within their specialist section and other sections of the Legal Services Department as appropriate or as directed.
Key accountabilities:
· Provide high quality business focused legal advice to the company in the specialist legal areas covered by the section of the legal team of which they are a member.
· Provide legal advice that is business-focused, accurate and appropriate so allowing the company to reduce its risk of exposure.
· Assist in the direction of matters to other sections within Legal Services Department as appropriate having regard to type of work;
· Provide information to the Head of their section and as appropriate direct to the Group Company Secretary in a timely and suitable form;
Support the Head of their section as may be required in the conduct of other functions within the Legal Services Department.
Job skills, experience and qualifications:
Essential:
· Qualified solicitor/barrister
· 1 years’ post-qualification experience preferably gained all or partially in-house
· Understanding of corporate legal risk and how to minimise that risk
· Ability to advise and influence at management level with strong communication and interpersonal skills
· Proactive and creative
