Manchester Metrolink is the light rail (tram) system that operates throughout Greater Manchester. It is one of the most successful light rail systems in the UK carrying nearly 20 million passengers every year. Owned by Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) the Metrolink has for lines from the city centre that terminate in Bury, Altrincham, Eccles and Chorlton-cum-Hardy.
A multi-million pound expansion of the Manchester Metrolink is underway including extensions linking Chorlton to Didsbury, Central Manchester to Oldham and Rochdale and Central Manchester to Manchester airport, which is due to open in 2016.
