Job based from Kent. These technical experts plan and carry out commissioning testing of substation equipment and in particular protection equipment to ensure it is safe and fit for purpose.

This team is responsible for the design and construction of complex substations projects for private external clients and Networks up to 132kV.

NATURE AND SCOPE:
Commissioning is toward the end of the process of delivering a substation installation project. Equipment is checked, tested, safely energised and records updated as part of the process. The role is one of teamwork with many other specialists and colleagues. Every electrical item of electrical plant is commissioned by or with these staff.

Commissioning 11-132kV equipment requires communication and understanding with technical experts from National Grid, Contractors, Suppliers, and Customers as well as internally with contracting designers and project managers. Technical problems that occur on site are normally handled locally where the job holder will find a way to achieve the end often without reference to higher authority. Using sound engineering judgement and applying precedents the job holder will make decisions about a way forward. Often there is no right answer. For this reason communication must be enthusiastic and unambiguous. Risk is often reduced by an ability to understand and rationalise conflicting points of view to reach an optimum solution.

Work is normally on sites with varying degrees of accommodation. The majority of the work is site based including outdoor and indoor construction areas and site based office locations.
Work often has to take place outside normal hours in order to lower the risk of customer interruptions whilst new plant is commissioned and tested. The planning process towards this can be very long term.

KEY SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

The job holder would be expected to hold a relevant engineering degree or Higher National HNC/HND qualification (pr equivalent) and the Power System Protection Course. You will possess demonstrable network operational experience as a Senior Authorised Person (SAP) including a period of time as a commissioning engineer.

Alternative route(s) could be an HNC in electrical power engineering, a development plan, proven track record as a commissioning engineer gaining operational experience to become SAP and having completed of wide ranging on job experience then it should be possible to demonstrate the competence to be a commissioning engineer.

Mechanical Technician

Mechanical Technician
Our client, a major rail rolling stock contractor, is looking for a Mechanical Technician to carry out a modification project on a number of High Speed Trains. The project is ongoing, and is a great opportunity to take a step into the rolling stock industry from a related discipline.
In order to be considered, you will be a skilled engineer, with experience of practical manual work on large machinery or heavy vehicles. A military background would be a bonus, but evidence of dependability and self-discipline is crucial to demonstrate that you can work comfortably in an autonomous environment. The role is based in Kent and is on a varied shift pattern, so candidates will ideally come from the local area.
If you are interested in the role of Mechanical Technician, please send your CV and call Matt Steeds on 0207 419 8968.
