Essential Skills , Experience and Knowledge.

1.Minimum of a HNC in an engineering field or equivalent. 
2.Management experience of large groups of staff 10+.
3.Preferably experience in fleet and/or maintenance operations and planning role.
4.Technical knowledge of relevant traction and rolling stock.
5.Knowledge and understanding of Network Rail rules and regulations.
6.Understanding of railway depot and railway industry operations preferable.
7.Understanding of Railway safety practices and statutory H&amp;S legislation. 
8.Carry out any incident/accident investigations as required.

Responsibilities

- To develop comprehensive, logic linked, project programmes for UK infrastructure projects incorporating resource and skills planning, materials planning, cost estimating, earned value forecasting and reporting.
- To continuously monitor the programmes prepared to accurately reflect progress and maintain accurate earned value, cash prediction, resource data for internal and external purposes.
- To identify critical paths and ensure action plans are developed and implemented to maximise project quality, cost and delivery objectives.
- Through accurate reporting on Work Package progress, co-ordinate all functional activity on the project and ensure that problems and bottlenecks are anticipated and resolved in a timely manner to prevent negative impact on the project

Experience

- Experience in project planning / scheduling role
- Knowledge of the railway industry and in particular rail signalling projects particularly Network Rail GRIP 3, 4 and 5-8
- Excellent knowledge of Primavera P3e / P3 &amp; a working knowledge of MS project, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Access packages
- Knowledge of contractual requirements (desirable)
- Knowledge and experience of working in a business processes environment (desirable)

As Senior Planner you will be responsible for tender programming, providing support to technical
submissions and live project programme monitoring and updating.

The focus is to improve the overall business performance through the production of accurate tender
resource programming as a direct support to the tender submission process. You will be responsible for the production of fully resourced programmes for the tenders for various Civil Engineering projects within the timescales allowed for the tender submissions. You will also be expected to identify the most economical methods of production, analyse risk and opportunity for the tender project together with value engineering solutions. In addition the role will include supporting live projects through monitoring progress, identifying change and its consequences on the progress and completion period of the project.

Other duties will be to carry out the programming function in the South England region, achieving high quality and accurate fully resourced programmes to cross reference against the resource levels obtained from the estimator’s unit rates to achieve an estimating success rate in line with company business plan.

You will be expected to visit live sites, update the site programme with the project manager, report on change and produce supporting evidence to the QS for evaluation of changes to the original
scope. It is also your responsibility to ensure compliance with the business procedures and the objectives set out in the business plan as well as producing a weekly report to the Engineering Manager.	

As a Senior Planner you will be identifying areas of reactive workload and proactively developing ideas to turn this into planned work. It is also important that you maintain primary contact and a good working relationship with clients , partners, suppliers and sub-contractors.
You will be liaising with the client on a regular basis and it is your responsibility to ensure the work progresses satisfactorily. You will also attend and present the programme and support information at the workshops and reviews for tender submissions.

The successful candidate will have previous planning experience of large-scale project planning, preferably within civil engineering.  You should have good working knowledge of programming software such as primavera  and also be aware of how programmes are developed.
