You will work within a team of technicians to execute both project work and maintenance, as well as fault finding and inspections, on time and to budget under the leadership of the P-Way Team Leader.  
The successful applicant will have significant practical experience of Permanent Way maintenance and/or inspection. Experience must include proven competency in P-Way equipment, processes and principles. Experience in other railway engineering fields would be an advantage.  It would be preferable to have multiple skills in all aspects of P-Way maintenance and ability to further develop P-Way skills, and ability to develop a working appreciation of all other railway maintenance disciplines.

- Operating in accordance with local Quality Assurance procedures

Who are the likely candidates?
- Chartered Engineers would be an advantage
- Civil Engineering Degree B.Eng, M.Eng or equivalent
- Diploma, PhD, etc, would be an advantage. 
- A member of the Institution of Civil Engineers 


What skills do I need?

- Railway/civil engineering design experience
- Experience of Maintenance, renewal, and or enhancements in a railway infrastructure company
- Experience of multi-disciplinary rail project work
- Extensive hands on experience of the production or checking or approval of feasibility, outline and detailed railway, alignment, track, civil engineering structures, drainage, formation, operations, etc, designs and calculations will be essential.

- Substantial understanding of the UK rail network 
- Expertise in the use of design software packages, Micro Station, In Rail, TerraModelling, Clear Route, etc, will be essential.  
- Experience of other software tools, Project Programming, word processor, Spreadsheets, etc, will also be necessary.
- Excellent underpinning knowledge of railway, civil engineering, geotechnical and structural engineering design principles, standards, components, and fabrication methods is essential.
- Good experience of route alignment, drainage, signalling layout, formation and structural principles and design would be an advantage

You role will be to assist in producing the strategic maintenance and inspection plan for the Permanent Way and ensure it is delivered in line with standards and procedures to comply with current legislation and the performance specification with client.

Your responsibilities will include the following:

•	Providing technical assistance and support in planning managing and implementing renewal and replacement works and assisting whenever possible to ensure that projects are delivered to timescale and budget.
•	Developing, reviewing and auditing the maintenance and inspection plan for the permanent way.
•	Setting and monitoring standards and safe methods of work for maintenance, repairs and inspection of the permanent way by either internal staff or external contractors.
•	Producing, holding, issuing and maintaining technical procedures, instructions, specifications manuals and drawings for the permanent way.

•	Implementing and maintaining working practices to ensure efficient use of materials and labour.
•	Designing and trialing new systems and equipment, producing modification specifications or recommending any changes to standards and procedures. Liaising with regulatory bodies to ensure all regulatory requirements are fulfilled.
•	Carry out drawing/documentation verification and update and amend technical drawings as necessary

The successful candidate will be degree qualified and have demonstrable experience working on permanent way. You should have knowledge of the railway industry with particular reference to technical advancements, safety regulations, Railway Group Standards and Railtrack/Network Rail Company Standards.
